Slow keyboard response in Word 02

Hi,

My keyboard response varies so that letters in Word take seconds to appear
after typing. I'm using Word 2002 on Windows XP and have modifed keyboard
response rates in control panel to no avail. Can anyone suggest a cause and
solution? Many thanks!

It sounds like your system is bogged down by something. Press Ctrl-Shift-Escape
and look at the Task Manager’s icon in the notification area (it should be a
greenish icon). Is it dark or bright green? Click the Processes tab in Task
Manager and then the CPU column (you may have to click it twice to sort
descending). See if there is anything other than System Idle Process that is
over 90%.

Thanks for all this. Your answer was so clear and easy to follow.
Unfortunately, none of my processes are any where near 90% and the little box
is mostly dark. Any more ideas? Greatly appreciate your time and knowledge.

Click start---run---type in msconfig--click OK---click startup tab---you can
uncheck these programs and reboot until problem goes away. Try any virus
programs first. (most likely cause)
