Please help, I am now lost on what I could do. I have a
dell desktop that is about a year old. I have ran
antivirus, cleanup, and defragment. What else is there
that I could do to speed up this machine. I have dsl and
it moves like dialup. If anyone knows I would greatly
appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Justin

Check for spyware?

XP is not set up by default for maximum performance and
for DSL it requires you do some registry editing as the
changes cannot be made in the control panel\Network
Connections. The Recieve buffers are set low, the TTL may
be too high, the Black hole detect maybe enabled and so
on. There is one fantastic program that is free and will
do the changes for you. It's called SpeedXP and it's free.
I have tested this program personally and the changes it
makes are good ones. If you want to do the registry
changes yourself then e:mail me and I will give you the
reg route and the changes to make. Keep smiling.

YOU SHOULD CHECK WITH YOUR ISP TO SEE WHY YOU ARE GETTING
SLOW THRU-PUT AND IT COULD BE THE LENGTH OF WIRING FROM
THE CENTRAL OFFICE TO YOUR HOME

I forgot to mention that I boosted my DSL storage speeds
from 124 to 178KB\sec. A throughput performance increase
from 1.01 to 1.46 . Keep smiling.
