Win XP SP2 IE7
How can I get IE7 to boot up quicker. As now it takes several attempts, 6 or
7 perhaps, before I can log on. I have checked the network settings and
options, finding nothing out of ordinary. I'm on broadband and have
reinstalled my broadband modem and my Cox service. Nothing seems to work.
Perhaps I'm being just impatient but I believe that I should be able to get
on the net without repeatedly making attempts.

Have you cleared the cache?

Once it's finished loading, is it still slow?

Why not d/l another browser and use that ? I have IE7 , but I use
Opera browser all of the time .

You could try updating/reinstalling IE7, but I don't think it will remedy
your situation quickly.
You say 'log on', but do not say where. Are you trying to use some
proprietary website?
Turn OFF automatic proxy discovery unless this is required by COX
(unlikely in my opinion unless they want to lock you down for some
reason), this slows things down on home based computers while IE attempts
to 'detect' a proxy server on the 'network' (which in your case would be
the Internet).
Also try disabling any plugins with the plugin manager and see how that
affects performance, then try enabling them one by one to determine which
is the culprit.

You could also http://www.getfirefox.com
It's free, highly configurable and extensible, and in my humble opinion
quite a lot faster than IE with website rendering.
Note however that for Windows Update, you are still limited to IE only as
the Windows Update website requires ActiveX components

This can be caused by weak cable signals, defective modem anything dealing
with broadband. Will your ISP check the cable?

Do you get the same behaviour with other browsers? It might be just an "IE"
thing.....I have found it sluggish to respond to clicking on links etc on my
system, though not to the same level as you describe.
