Slow ICS on one computer

I set up a wireless network for a Client and shared a
Direcway satelite Internet connection using the native
Inernet Sharing (ICS) capability in WIndows XP. There are
four workstations (3 XP, 1 W2k Pro) on the network. One
XP station is used for sharing the ICS connetion, one XP
and the W2000 Pro workstations work well browing the
network and Internet (web download speeds about 500kbs).
However, one Windows XP Pro laptop works fine as far as
the seeing and sharing with rest of the local netowrk but
is extremely slow on the Internet(about 70kbs to 120kbs).
You can ping both local and remote addresses no problem,
but browsing the Internet and transferring data from the
Web are very slow. Anyone have any suggestions?

I also use a Direcway Satellite system.

If you are using a 3rd party firewall, check to make sure
that you don't also have internet firewall selected on
your Satellite USB adaptor.

1. Go to your network connections.
2. Double click on Direcway Satellite USB Adaptor
3. Click on properties.
4. Click on Advanced Tab.
5. Make sure "Top" box does NOT have a check mark in it,
where it says "protect my computer and network..."

If you ARE NOT using a 3rd party Firewall, DON'T REMOVE
THE CHECK, instead, go to the www.mydirecway.com website
and login. Find where you can test the speed of the
connection. Also look at your recent usage and see if
you were "FRAPPED" (Penalized for over-usage).

You might call tech support and complain that your
browsing like a snail. They usually can get you going
faster...although they will never admit to doing anything
on thier end.

Hope this helps.

Jim
