One of the two hard disks in my computer is suddenly operating at about
1/10th speed. How can I trouble shoot such a thing?

Large file transfers that used to take 1 minute now take 7 minutes. (1.27
Gig file)

Check if DMA is enabled using the Device Manager.
 
The BIOS would not allow me to set DMA, however I had Windows 2K search for
other drivers and chose one that was not "recommended". It worked, and now I
am cruising along with DMA.
