Slow graphics in Vista

Does everyone have the same problem I do of their graphics being MUCH slower
in Vista than in XP? With the same card and latest drivers, I get a Passmark
score of 250-275 in Vista for 2D graphics and about 650 in XP. 3D is closer
between the two, but still not great in Vista. I have a Gateway 420SX with a
NVidia 7600GS card and 256 MB mem. When I check in Pitstop.com, the same
thing occurs, much slower graphics scores in Vista. I would have thought by
now that NVidia could have written drivers that came closer to the XP
performance.

Jo,

Also, Vista Areo requires a more powerful graphics card than does WinXP,
thus giving you a lower score in Vista. Your score isn't that bad for Areo.
What are the specifications (processor speed and memory speed, in MHz) for
your video card? My video card has a 500 MHz processor and 800 MHz memory,
and I only get a grade of 3.5 in Vista.

"mac" and "freddy" are wrong and you are right.
Every independent test comparing Vista and XP generates numbers like you
did.
In tests that compare actual game play the frame rates in XP are nearly
always faster and many prominent 3d games simply will not run in Vista.

babaloo,

I was quoting my score as provided by Vista Windows Experience Index base
score. Read my post. I was not quoting any benchmarking statistics, nor
commenting on any game playing results or tests conducted by 3rd parties.
There is more to this issue than meets the eye. Many variables are involved,
including nVidia and ATI making graphics drivers more efficient. All the
games I have played in Vista work without issues. There is no simple,
accurate, and universally applicable summary statement that can be made about
Vista graphics performance as opposed that of Windows XP.
