Have a windows 2000 file server that is quickly accessible to win98/ME and
Mac OS clients, but Win2K and XP clients bogg down when accessing this file
server.

My only conclusion is that it is ntfs related...

Any thoughts?

Your conclusion is most likely incorrect: The local
file system is always handled by the redirector, and
its type is completely invisible from networked PCs.
This is why Win9x machines can access shares
kept on an NTFS partition.

You write "Win2K and XP clients bogg down". Please
elaborate and give full details, e.g.
- It takes a long time to make a network connection, or
- The network connection is frequently lost, or
- Copying network files takes a long time
- etc, etc.

Are the clients all using the same protocol?

Does the server have the same problems when it accesses the W2K and XP
clients?

Do ping times also show differences?

Are they all (clients) on the same subnet?

Could be anything for MTU issues to misconfigured routing tables
to bad hardware.
