Slow Editing / Front Page Not Responding

Hello. I hope this is the place for this post.

I have been using frontpage 2003 SP2 to create my site www.mycarsucks.com
for quite some time.

However the site, weather I am working on the server side or on a local
computer, seems to hang to either slow editing or Not Responding.
This happens on the home page as well as the Photos/Video page.

I use a laptop and a desktop that are both exceeding the base requirements.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated. I hope this is enough to go on.

Hi,

Delete temp files from the FP temp area.

Tools | Site Settings | Advanced | Delete

Mike,

I tried to do that directly on the server that host the website.
I still get the same thing.
Any other ideas?

Mike,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I still get the same thing... Slow
response... Not Responding et cetera...

Give this a try.

Go here: http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm and download FP
Cleaner.

Run the functions that clear the FrontPage Temporary files and the Cache
(*.web) files.

See if it helps.

Steve,

Thanks for the response. I am still having problems. Let me say a bit more
about my problem:

I maintain over 50 web sites and mycarsucks.com is the only site that is
having this problem.

I think the problem has to be because of all of the links on the page go to
wmf video files. Does Frontpage load everything (Links to files) into memory
when it opens a page? Can this be a reason? Can this be turned off?

FrontPage slows to a crawl when I open up the index page and then responds
near the top of the program with ("Not Responding) and then slows to a crawl
again. It takes over 2 minutes to add a new link or simply just edit the
page.

Any ideas?

Steve would know much more than I.

But this page loads instantly.

From my (limited) knowledge of HTML, having links to other files will not
cause them to load until the links are activated (clicked on)

I do wonder what the heck all these <span>'s are doing in the HTML.
Examples
<SPAN ID="TBDownLevelDiv238">
<SPAN ID="TBDownLevelDiv239">
<SPAN ID="TBDownLevelDiv240">
<SPAN ID="TBDownLevelDiv241">
<SPAN ID="TBDownLevelDiv243">
<SPAN ID="TBDownLevelDiv244">
<SPAN ID="TBDownLevelDiv245">
<SPAN ID="TBDownLevelDiv246">
<SPAN ID="TBDownLevelDiv248">
<SPAN ID="TBDownLevelDiv249">
<SPAN ID="TBDownLevelDiv250">

There are 2130 occurrences of <SPAN .
But only 1851 occurrences of </SPAN or </span . So they don't even match up.

I would delete all of these as they don't seem to serve any purpose. I
thought there might be JS that referenced these ID's, but you don't have
any.

Of course, this may have nothing whatsoever to do with slow editing and non
response. But deleting them would cerainly clean up the code a lot

Hey Guys,

I have not reviewed the code... However I think it is time to redo the
pages that are affected. I am not sure how thye grew like that with the Span
tags...
I will let you know how I make out. Thanks for the suggestions.

Guys,

Two heads are better than one. I cleaned up the code and the problem went
away! Thanks for you help. I knew I would get pointed in the right
direction.

Many Thanks!
