Slow due to hardware or just beta?

I have 5308. Just installed tonight on my Dell Laptop Inspiron 1000. Here
are the specs:
Processor: Intel Celeron 2.2 GHz
Memory: 768 MB - 704 availabe with 64MB Shared with Video
Video: SiS 650_651_M650... driver provided by MS
All other hardware, ie. sound, network (even Proxim wireless), etc. have
loaded the drivers correctly.

It just seems really slow. Mouse is jumpy. All the drivers were/are
provided by Microsoft.
Anyone else have similar problems?

Performance doesn't get worked on until quite late. Drivers are often
far from optimal. Mouse jumpiness is not unusual.

Business as usual in a (far from beta-quality) build.

If you try the latest build (if you have access) then you'll see significant
performance tuning in 5342.

Unfortunately my school does not have the access for 5342. So far, just the
Dec CTP and Feb CTP and the latest build for Feb CTP is 5308. :(

Well, if you're on MSDN or TechNet, expect to see it in the April shipment
:o)
