Hello,
I have two computers in an automated test system. One
computer has several data acquisition cards in it and is
used strictly for data collection. The other has our own
proprietary S/W on it which is used to run tests on a
given piece of equipment. The computer used for data
aqcuisition boots up about a minute after the other one.
I would like to slow down or delay the boot up of the the
other computer so that they both finish loading windows at
the same time. How can I add a delay to the boot up of
the one computer?

There is an option in Windows which allows you to display
multiple operating systems to boot from and the time-out
for the selection. Go to:
Start -> Control Panel -> System -> 'Advanced' tab ->
Click on the Startup and Recovery 'Settings' button.

At the top where it says 'System Startup' click the 'Edit'
button. Copy the information from the Windows XP line
under [Operating Systems] starting at multi(0) to the end,
but don't copy the / fastdetect.
Paste this under the original and change the title to
something like "Fake OS". Change the timeout at the top
to however long you want (60 ?) and then close and save.

When you restart, the computer should prompt you for which
operating system you want, and will wait for the timeout
period(in seconds) before it chooses the default, which
should still be Windows XP.

I haven't tried this myself, but I've worked on computers
with older versions of Dos/Windows on the same drive as
Windows XP, so I know this will work to increase the
time. I'm not sure if copying the data and placing a
second link to Win XP would do any damage, and I'm not
responsible for any damage done because you followed these
directions. (Just a disclaimer).

Best of luck.
