Hi, my computer does something very strange: when it starts up and it logs into one of the user accounts, it takes a very long long time to load and then once it has loaded, everything runs very slowly and finicky. For instance, the the start menu usually appears some 15-30 seconds after the start button is clicked and when moving the cursor around the start menu, the items in the menu are not highlighted unless the cursor stays stationary over a single item for a long time (again, 15-30 seconds). I figured out, though, that if you switch users (through the task manager--I have fast user switching enabled) then the user account you switch to runs perfectly fine with none of the above problems; it runs exactly how a 2.66 GHz macine w/ 512 MB RAM and XP Home should run
I had a feeling that it might be the myriad spyware programs that come along with the stupid P2P programs like Kazaa or that my family inadvertantly clicked 'Yes' to install while browsing the internet running in the background, eating up memory, but that doesn't really make sense anymore, because the same programs are running on both accounts while they're open, yet one runs fine and the other really slow
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
