It may be your virus scanner that's slowing things down.
If you don't have internet, turn of active scanning while
you work. Also, filtering programs like Net Nanny slow
things down a lot. Have you ever downloaded things like
Kazaa or other "free" programs that "enhance" your
computer in some way? If you have, they might be
spy/add/malware and you may need to do a clean install to
fix things. Lastly, is your computer's hardware good
enough? I don't mean minimum requirements for the
programs you run. Those are never good enough. If you
can't meet the recommended requirements of any programs
you're running, you might try uninstalling those and see
what happens. And you should also remember that you
can't fill a hard drive up completely with installed
programs or your computer will move like a snail. One
more thing: update all your drivers. You can do this by
going into the start menu, then clicking on control panel
(it's right out on the start menu usually, and it's not
in the all programs menu) then selecting system (you'll
need to select performance and maintenance first if
you're in category view) you'll get a window that says
system properties. Click on the Hardware tab, and then
click on device manager. You'll need to go down the list
you'll see, expanding the categories and click the update
drivers button on the tool bar (hold you mouse over a
button to see what it is). Good Luck!
