I am a newbie. What is the first thing I should do to speed up my computer?
It runs Win 98 on a pentium III 133 MHz and 20 gig HD. I am beginning an
A+certification course but not a power user yet.

Thanks

George

First of all, you need to realize that this is a group for Microsoft Access,
a database program, so it's not really the place to look for the kind of
advice you're looking for.

Secondly, realize that what you have is a slow computer.
If you bought a new one today, it could easily have 20 times the processor
speed of yours.
In your A+ class, you will learn about adding RAM and perhaps overclocking
or changing to a faster HD, but none of these is going to make it even twice
as fast.

The computer you need depends on what you will learn in the A+ certification
course which is not the topic of this newsgroup. This newsgroup is for
Microsoft Access, a database application and not general computer access.

However, the info you posted is wrong. IIRC, Pentium III started with the
speed of about 400 MHz. If the speed is 133 MHz, I think the CPU is Pentium
(I) as I used to used a Pentium (I) 166 MHz.
