slow comp. start up

when 1st turn on comp. it taks approx 3 mimutes or so for
it to get to main screen& another 1-2min to allow me to
start a prgram while tool bar loads up( not much in
it) using xp /2gig h/d &512 ram dell desk top new in 01
any help or sugg.???

2G hd?? Is this correct? How much free space is reported? Have you
defragged the drive? Also, check the startup applications.
Start/Run/type: msconfig. Select the Startup tab. Check each one and
verify that you know what it does and if it is needed. Use this site as
a guide http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.php

It is not good for your computer to keep turning on and
off.What I do is Log Off my name and turn the monitor
off.Then when I go back on it loads in like 5 seconds and
another 10 to load the desktop.I have 60GB Hard-Drive
with 86% free and 384MB DDR Ram.
