sounds like you might be bogged down by either programs
running in the background or a ton of 'garbage files'
slowing you down.
first thing i would do is to perform a clean up of your
files. i'm assuming that you have windows xp, so click
on "start", then "all programs", then "accessories",
then "system tools", then "disk cleanup". Make sure there
are checks in the boxes for all temporary files and for
the recycle bin. that will get rid of your 'garbage
files'. when that is done, try using your browser again
and see if this has helped.
if not, then you might need to shut down some background
programs. at the bottom right of your screen, you will
see some icons. right click on any of them, and exit or
close if they will let you. just don't close your
antivirus program or your firewall if you have one.
anything else can always be restarted manually.
to go any further with getting rid of background
programs, you probably should get someone to help you who
has some computer knowledge.
