slow browser response

hi,
can anyone help me with this?
i get slow browser repsonse to commands like using the
scrollbar, clicking links, etc. and especially slow when
typing e-mails into my yahoo.co.uk account. some website
text boxes i have no problem with (like this newsgroup one
for example) and some take ages to respond to keyboard
commands.
using ie 6 now after having this problem with ie5.5 but
the upgrade doesn't seem to have solvwed it.
am also using a broadband connection.
any ideas?
