Slow Boot

I have MS XP Home Edition with Zone Alarm and Avast Anti-virus. Until Zone
Alarm updates (about 3.5 minutes from start) and then only after Avast
updates ( 5 to 7 minutes from start) does the system respond normally. I
have deleted the temp files, added memory and have plenty of disk space. Is
there a memory allocation that I could make to speed the boot?
 
What do you mean by "Zone Alarm" and "Avast updates"? How fast does the
computer boot when these two items are disabled?

Sounds as if you`ve got ZA and Avast doing boot scans , go into
respective preferences and cancel boot scans .
