During startup it's taking an extremely long time to finish the boot process. The desktop is visable but I have to wait and wait and wait some more for XP to complete the startup routine. When I uninstalled Norton Systemworks 2003 my system boots normally. Is anyone else seeing this same slow down

Hello,

I have seen this several times with various pieces of software like Norton
System Works. These tools usually have filter drivers that are loading and
there is some delay occuring during boot where one driver affects another
driver or process. I would check to see if you can disable the automatic
startup processes through the SystemWorks options. If not, you can use
MSCONFIG.exe from the run line and disable them that way. If the problem
still occurs after unloading the user mode processes, then it is likely a
driver as they run in kernel mode. At that point, you will want to talk
with Norton about this issue as they may have an update.

Best regards,

Hi All,

To those experiencing a long (approx 90 sec) pause when starting
Windows XP and running Norton AntiVirus, the following solution may
work:

Download and install the latest root certificates from Verisign:

https://www.verisign.com/support/roots.zip

This solved the problem for me... Best of luck to you all!

Regards,

Trevor Pinnington.
