I have a three month old Compaq Presario with XP home
edition. Ever since I bought it the boot up time has been
long, sometimes over three minutes.
Any suggestions?
Gayle

Stop those programs that are loading at startup from doing so. Go to
Start>Run and type "msconfig", without the quotes, and hit Enter. Go to the
Startup tab and see what is loading. Uncheck anything that is not
absolutely required for the operation of your system. This will differ from
one maker to the other. You should be running a minimum of 512 MB of RAM.

Dear Gayle:

Go into maintenance and troubleshoot or get a geek in the yellow
pages..That's what I did and my computer is just fine.

Sincerely, Beverly Noble

Hi Gayle,

I would suggest, to start with, you run an adware/spyware remover, then a
full virus scan. After that is all done, run Scandisk, then Disk
Defragmenter.

If you still have this problem, then come back and we can go from there.

PS I use AdAware from www.lavasoft.de, and AVG Free Edition Antivirus from
www.grisoft.com (these are both free).
