Cams,
There is a program "Windows Registry Repair" which has an option to
defragment the registry and also to clean any errors in the registry. No
guarantee but I think it might speed up your boot up time. Also, there are
conflicting views about never shutting your system down but that will solve
your problem. I never shut my system down and never have any problems. I
do have restarts whne down loading certain programs but the restarts are
quite fast.
I also use Reg Repair.

: Thanks Tom and Bill, I downloaded and installed Crap Cleaner which duly
: removed all my temp files and still the system takes 1min 20secs to get
from
: start to user entry, then a further 2 mins to be able to log into the web,
: that I can understand as the AVirus etc do there checks through the
programs.
: I have tried everything that is on the web about the slow boot up time and
: everything I try ends up the same. I will await a reply from either of you
or
: someone else regards this issue, but thanks for the time and effort.
