Hi,
This has got me scratching my head. I'm using XP SP3, IE8 and connected
using Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC to my Siemens Gigaset
SE587 WLAN dsl. My internet speed is advertised as 8Mbps.
When I do a speed test, either at speedtest.net or as I like
speedtest.bbmax.co.uk it will vary from time to time. For example I've just
run a test and got ping 57ms and d/load speed of 1801Mbps, no where near the
speed I should be getting. However earlier this morning I ran the same test
and got ping 57ms - 6890Mbps.
I have a laptop here running Vista and it is constantly getting 7500Mbps on
the same test at any time, however it's connected wirelessly to the router.
I've tried the following:
Changed the ethernet cable
Ran TCPoptimizer (it seem to work straight away but decreased again)
Updated the drivers (this seem to make it slower)
I also totally reinstalled XP for other reasons but it doesn't seem to have
fixed it.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks.
