slow application installation (very slow writing to system32 folder)

Hi,

I'm running Windows XP Professional, and I'm recently facing a very annoying
problem:
Installing new applications is very, very slow.

Normally, filenames written at installation time pass by at a speed way too
high to be readable. But when installing a file to C:\Windows\system32\, the
install program seems to hang for several seconds, making it thus very easy
to read what file is being written at that moment.

I tested this with a few applications, and in my experience the behaviour is
always like I just described: normal install, until files have to be written
to C:\Windows\system32\, then things dramatically slow down until this file
is written...

Since I dont regularly install new applications, I have no clue which system
changes (I more often 'play' with my system than I install new programs) may
be responsible for this behaviour :-(

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Grtz,

Kristof

If your talking about download speed versus install
speed,your slow down is normal.For example:Download a
update from Windows update, takes longer for it to install
on your machine than the actual downloading of it.Hope
this helps and not confuses you....Good luck.

No, I'm talking about install speed only.
Thus, the time that it takes to install a program when you start the
installation from an installation binary that is already located in a folder
on the main harddisk. (eg: in C:\downloads or something)

The time to copy this installation binary to that folder from an internet
source (downloading) or another medium like cd or floppy is not considered
here.

Hope this clears things a bit up,

Kristof
