When I open ad users and computers, and try to add users
and computers, it takes about 45 seconds to open.
I am at the DC running AD and only have one server with 3
computers attached.
This is a new install of the DC and AD.
How can I speed up the responce? I have 1 gig of memory
and a 80 gig hard drive and 2.0 P4 processoe.

From the below, I'm not sure where the bottleneck is.

The first thing I would do is to run perfmon on the DC that AD Users &
Computers is targetted to and see if:
- cpu is normal
- network bandwidth is normal (e.g. is the machine network limited).

Also, how many users / computers are enumerated and, is the client or dc
multi-homed?

You can run dcdiag on the dc and netdiag on the client to help troubleshoot
items that may cause slow downs (such as name resolution errors) as well
(see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;265706&Product=win2000)
for where to get these tools.

Hope that helps, thanks, klaas

Verify, that you have DNS in place, working and that all servers/clients are
pointing to your internal DNS server.
Next thing is to check is that you have created a reverse lookup zone in
your DNS.
