slow access to network resources

I'm not sure if this is the right group, but here goes.
I have a Win2K SP4 client connecting to a Win2K SP4 DC.
When you try to access data on the network shares through
Windows Explorer, My Network Places, or certain programs,
it takes 3 to 5 minutes for the window to come up.

If I try to access files through Office programs (Excel,
etc.), the folders come up right away. When it does
hang, I look at the task manager under processes...
explorer.exe flucuates between 30% and 40% the entire
time.

I've installed updates for the progams, reinstalled the
NIC drivers, temporarily disabled AV scanning, ran Ad-
Aware, all with no success.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I don't know if this is the problem, but verify that your dns and wins [if used]
configuration is correct. Your domain computers must point only to AD domain
controllers running dns with the dns zone as described in the link below. I would
also run netdiag from the support tools on that computer looking for failed
tests/errors/warnings that may indicate a networking, configuration, domain computer
account problem and look in Event Viewer for any pertinent errors. The second link is
also worth a look. --- Steve
