Hello all

Hope somebody could help me out here.

I tried slipstreaming XP Pro with SP2.I did it before and it worked great
but this time it says to reboot each time. It goes through the checks and
before it says hit any key to use CD it says PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT.

Is this missing the MBR? If so how can I fix it? It was the same disc as
before.

It burned without any errors.

Thanks for any help

dont hink you read the message properly, That is the problem I cant copy
the old ne either it is broken.I did make two new ones and neither oe wil
boot, it says
PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT.

Thanks

This is unsolicited input, but I've found that slipstreaming isn't usually
worth the time and effort because it's a constant updating exercise to keep
it current and the headaches of proving it works, or discovering after a
failure that it doesn't work, are just not worth it.

In the end, it's actually a lot less frustrating and efficient to just
reinstall windows (via backup, CD, whatever you have), install a firewall
and antivirus, and then let Windows Update handle the rest automatically
while you finish restoring your data.

By far the best though is to use an imaging application and dispense with
all of the hassle, period. They're not real expensive, and they're easy to
test to see if they'll work when you really need them.

Actually, slipstreaming Service Pack 2 is vital to installing XP if you want
to have a partition that is more than 137GB in size. Only CDs with SP2 (and
Vista) will allow this.

Courtney sends.

P.S. Find SimpleSlipper. Makes slipstreaming much easier.

Sort of; but I still think simply tossing the SP2 CD in the drive and
letting it install is more efficient.

It's the inability of most users to properly test a slipstream to see that
it works completely that bugs me so much. I haven't yet met anyone face to
face where their slipstream effort succeeded when they needed it. That's
not a lot of users I know, but ... still I think indicative. I had to come
up with a non-destructive way to completely test the slipstreams for them.
Ymmv of course; just an opinion, nothing more.

No, not so. You need either SP2 *or* SP1. Only the original pre-SP1 release
will not work.

You are probably right - it fails to load the CD boot record so the
"press any key to boot from CD" prompt never shows up.

The vital step in creating a slipstreamed CD is:
Boot record from old CD
4 bootsectors
No emulation
Load segment 7C0
ISO level 1
Disable ISO file delimiter
