I need to update (slipsteam) my "elderly" (mid 2001)copy of WXPPro, with
SP2, to enable the installation of a 300GB Sata (non RAID) harddrive. (new
M/B and BIOS all support this drive, O/S doesn't) I have tried the two
methods to create the disc, described in the links below without success,
://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=296 and
http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html

It goes through the motions of installing the files to the harddrive, then
hangs after the restart. The last time I tried to install I didn't even get
that far, instead the following message appeared; "file cpqarry.sys caused
an unexpected error (32768) at line 3540 in
d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\setup.c." Press any key etc.,
I don't need to integrate SP1 first do I?

I am using Ahead Nero version 6.6.0.16 to create the CD

Any help with this gratefully received.

Carey,

Many thanks for the link, it's an excellent utility for creating the file
prior to burning, certainly a lot faster than the command line!.
I've tried it out on my laptop which only came with Roxio CD creator and the
first one I made copied the iso file to the CD, then unpacked the file into
the original installation disc's folders in the process. Unfortunately, it
didn't do anything after "inspecting hardware.....etc". I then found the
setting to make a bootable CD, which only put two files onto the CD,
Bootcat.bin and Bootimg.bin. I didn't even get the "press any key to boot
from CD" with this one. Will try with Nero tomorrow (later today).
Just one more question, I've seen differing addresses suggested for the load
segment, i.e. 0000 or 07C0 Hex in different tutorials, how can they both be
correct?

Regards

Harry,

Many thanks for the link, I've managed to create the disc, my laptop
software didn't have a burn image facility, sorted it on my desktop. It's
all academic now anyway as the 300 Gb drive I wanted to install to is scrap,
as is a new, working (prior to installing it in my PC anyway) replacement
sourced from a new PC. Yet I have no problem installing and running a 160Gb
from the same manufacturer. The vendor thinks it's a H/D firmware problem I
think it's a motherboard problem. (latest BIOS installed)
This is set to run and run.

Again many thanks

Mike H
