Well, the site does say:

"Slingshot is completely free. No ads, spyware or spam. Download now!"

As with any software, you install it at your own risk. However, after
you install this one you could run programs like Ad-Aware:

or Spybot:

http://www.safer-networking.org/

to see if it's spyware.
