I imagine most of us regularly back up our Word documents. Given that it's
pretty established that you should never save from Word to removable
media -- only copy under Explorer, I wonder if this could be accomplished by
a macro running in the Word screen. IE not save to but copy from to? Any
ideas? I regularly copy to a USB memory key/stick/flash memory and it can be
tedious to keep doing this manually under Explorer. I'd dearly like to do
this by just clicking on a toolbar button.

Go to File, Open or File Save in Word, right-click and use the Send To
command to copy it to the REM drive. No need to use Explorer.

Missed an obvious step: Use File Open or File Save/As, SELECT the document
and then right-click and use Send To REM drive.

While I was waiting for an answer have been experimenting with VBA. Can
successfully copy a file from one location to another, but not while still
in the document, possibly because the system feels I'm still using it and so
has it locked (permission denied). That's what I really wanted to do.
Ideally, from in the document 1) save to the main location (CTRL-S) and 2)
copy from that to the other location (usually removable media). And what I
really want to do is to automate it all in a macro and assign it to a button
on the toolbar, so that one click does both the initial save and then the
copy. . I am familiar with the last part but would welcome any more input re
the preceding parts.

No good, because I would have to know the name of the document in advance. I
want to write a VBA routine that does this by a click of a button whichever
document I have just saved. I know I can't do this until it is saved so
1)save the document 2)Copy it to rem media. any other ideas? Any other
takers? Or is there a VBA group anyone recommends?
