If you don't need transitions, cross fade, wipe, etc. you could try
IrfanView. It'll play the audio in a separate application.

MovieXone video editor can make high-end videos. Has two tracks
overlayed and an audio I think. Look around for the plugs and the docs
which run to 118 megs.

The ImageForge paint program includes a slideshow maker. The download
is at http://www.cursorarts.com/ca_imw_d.html

To make a stand-alone slide show program in ImageForge...

1- go to its "Tools" menu
2- choose "Create Album or Slide Show"
3- use the + button on the "Image Files" tab to add your pictures
4- go to the Viewer tab and assign a name (ending in .exe) for your
program
5- go to the Slideshow tab to choose effects and background sound if
wanted

If you want to run the slide show as a screen saver, checkmark the
Screen Saver option on the "Image Files" tab, and for the "Viewer"
tab, make the file name end in .scr (instead of .exe).

It's unclear from this comparison of the free version to the
full-featured pay version if the sound feature is present in the
freeware. Can you confirm that you're not describing a feature that's
only available in the pay version? Thanks.

Sound feature is present in the free version of ImageForge ...

Builds an installer program with the image files
compressed into an .EXE file and sound files separate ...

Installs and works OK ...

Hi Danin and Others,
Thanks for all the replies.
Image Forge works just fine and makes just the slideshow I had in mind.
At the time of posting my question I couldn't work out how to get background
music to play in an Irfanview slideshow, but have since found the info.
If anyone is interested have a look at Item 7 on
www.dreamwater.com/sport/walkstick/irfanview/irfan.htm

Thankx again, Leo R
