Slideshow doesn't play

Bruce

I posted this to the Media Player site, but I'll probably get an answer here
first.
I made a slideshow of about 50 photos and made CD copies. I sent a copy to 4
people that all have XP and Media Player 9. One person inserts the CD,
chooses Media Player, sees the first photo, then gets a blue screen. I know
the CD is good. Is there some setting that needs to be changed?
Thanks for any ideas.

Hi There,

What program did you use to make the slide show, what format was the
resulting video in WMV, AVI and so on

John:
Good question. I had scanned photos to My Pictures, then, using Movie Maker
2, I ckicked on Import Pictures, and draged them one by ont to the Show
Timeline. There was no actual video. I can't play avi so it can't be that.
I'm not too hep on all the terms. Had no problem playing it on my computer.
I'll try any ideas you may have.
Thanks again.

Hi Again,

Only one thing I am not sure of, you say you can't play AVI, is that right

When you assembled your pictures (and its fine to just use snaps) and added
any transitions etc etc, did you then save the movie to your own hard disk?
the resulting file would have had a filename extension of either WMV or AVI

When the save to file operation completes, you get an option to play the
finished movie when you click on "Finish", Did you do that and could you
see your video clip play back on your system?

I'm back:

Anytime I ever downloaded an avi, I would get sound, but no video.

After I assembled all the pix and transitions, I played it in the Movie
Maker. Then I saved it to my computer in my videos. It was definitely a WMV
file. It played OK from there, so I burned 5 CD's from that location. Played
all of them before I mailed them to make sure they were OK. They were.

Thanx.

Hi there,

OK, there may be more than one issue here then, and I am not all that sure
which is the best way to go. It could be a problem with the codecs on your
machine for starters, thats because if you save it as an avi file you don't
see any video on playback. It may also be a codec issue when you save as a
WMV file, not for you that is but for the people you send your disks too.

I have just run out of time, so I think you should go to www.papajohn.org
and checkout the codecs page Its under Problem Solving. Sorry about leaving
you high and dry, maybe papjohn will jump in if you are lucky.

Hi Bruce,

I'm assuming you're making a data CD and copying the WMV file(s) to it, and
not making a VCD or SVCD. Others would need the appropriate codec from
Microsoft. It should be obtained by the Windows Media Player automatically,
as long as they are on the internet when trying to play them.

Another approach would be for them to download and install the pack of
version 9 codecs. There's a link to the package on the Setup.... Software
page of www.papajohn.org
