Hi CindiBear,
It sounds as if one of two things is going on.
Either there is a animation/transition set to manual advance, or the
presentation is waiting on something to finish/happen.
Couple of things that would help us.
What version of PowerPoint are you using?
Does the slide not advance or does an animation not begin?
Are there any sound files in the presentation? Even far off the screen?
Are there any sound files linked to slide transitions? Are any sounds
playing (even silence)?
Are there any manual animation timings?
