Slide Transitions with Narrations

I do a lot of Powerpoint Narrations. Apparently when I add the Narrations
Powerpoint automatically adds timed transitions based on the length of the
Narrations. However, sometimes I want these timed transitions gone -- that
is, sometimes I'll give the talk in person, turn off the sound, and want to
transition at my own pace. Thus, I went in and turned off all timed
transitions and re-saved the file. Trouble is, it seems I cannot go back to
the timed transitions. Is there a way to "recover" those timed transitions
that correspond to the Narrations? Obviously, they vary widely in their
length. I am using Powerpoint 2003 on Windows XP Professional.
Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
I end up in these situations quite frequently. When I need to run the
presentation in person, I save it as "MeTalkBlahBlahBlah.PPT" and turn off
the transition timing in the copy, not the original. I started doing this
years ago. I found that in general I not only needed to turn off the timings
when I gave the thing live, but I needed to tweak it for the specific
audience. Having a temporary copy gave me the freedom to do that.

I guess you're suggesting that there is no other way to get them back. I'm
got rid of my transitions, and saved under the same name. It never even
crossed my mind that my narration timings would go away (guess I should
have). Thanks,
Jim

you can use the custom animation dialog to record the timings, for an
automated presentation. You will hve to remember what those timings were to
put them back in tho.

Thanks, but I was hoping for an efficient solution - like having PPT re-do
them. Manually checking and entering timings may take longer than simply
re-Narrating.

Unless you made a backup of the presentation, I don't know of a way to get
the timings back (short of re-narrating and re-saving the timings).

If you happen to be looking for a good way to make back ups of your
presentations while you are working on them, check out Sequential Save, an
add-in from Shyam. Information is available at:

Go to SLIDE SHOW\SET UP SHOW Click SHOW WITHOUT NARRATION
and change USE TIMINGS to MANUALLY

What about Slide Show/Set up Show and click "show without narrations"?
That *should* allow you to toggle them on or off as needed -- I don't
know if it affects the timings or not, but you could experiment with
that in conjunction with the manual/timings option in that same dialog
box...
