Take note that slide transitions and custom animations are two different
things.
Don't quite get what you mean. Are you referring to the "Fade through black"
under Slide Show > Slide Transition. If you do not want the "Fade through
black" transition, then apply "No transition" onto the slide.

ok, I have turned off all slide transitions. Lets go with custom animations
now. On 1 slide: the animation wipes the new slide over the previous slide.
Cant seem to reproduce that effect on other slides, just wipes/checkers/etc
over a black background.
That's because slide 1 doesn't have a slide before it. Hence, the wipe is
transitioning with a black background. If you want other slides to have the
same effect, you will need to add a black slide before the actual slide.
