slide transition conversion PPt Xp to 2003

I applied the hotfix after encountering various problems with Ppt 2003 on
three separate computers (using two original disks which I purchased).
However, I still seem to have a problem with converting older slide
transitions..
My presentations have 30-40 slides and I almost never use the same slide
transition on more than one slide. Yet when I open Ppt Xp files, most of the
slide transitions are now "shape circle."
Is this is a known problem?

Hi,

This is not a known problem. And from your description I was unable to
reproduce the problem here.

If you want to post a small 1 or 2 slide presentation that behaves
correctly in PowerPoint XP (using the default <blank> slide design and no
images to keep file size to a minimum), to this newsgroup, I will be glad
to send to our testing team for analysis.

Thanks for your reply. I have not done this before so I take it that I
simply attach the file to my reply?
My assistant tested another file this morning. The file was finalized in Ppt
Xp and she has Ppt 2000. She shows the diverse transitions that we created,
but when I open it in 2003 most of the slides are now "wipe left."

John.

Sorry, but I just realized there is yet another problem.

I don't have Ppt Xp on any of my computers. I did the kind of install that
remove Xp when 2003 was added. My secretary has only Ppt 2000.

One of the files that would illustrate the problem is huge, like 80 meg. I
do web work for an academic society and could temporarily upload this file
to a site when it could be downloaded. Would that work okay?

Hi Harold,

Instead of providing the entire file, just extract a couple of slides from
the presentation which, when opened up in PowerPoint 2003, exhibit the
problem you are describing.

Probably the easiest/safest way of doing this is:

1) From Windows Explorer, make a copy of the file
2) Open copy of presentation in earlier (not PowerPoint 2003) version of
PowerPoint
3) In Slide Sorter view delete all but 1 or 2 slides from the presentation
(choose slides where transition effect changes when opened in PPT 2003)
4) Apply default Slide Design to all slides
5) For all slides, Format -> Background (choose "Automatic" as type of
background)
6) Remove any graphics and confidential text from each slide.
7) Save As... (use current file name for copy of original file and, when
prompted to overwrite existing file say OK)

This will leave the original transition settings intact while making the 1
or 2 slide presentation as small as possible for posting to the newsgroup.
