Slide Timing

Frankly, I'm embarrassed to share this but.....I have a rather large slide
show in process. All the slides had various lengths of times that they were
to stay before transitioning on to the following slide. I apparently,
unwittingly, changed all the timings back to 10 seconds. I'm willing to pay
the "stupid tax" on my error and go back and re-time everything....but WHAT
would, could, I have done to cause that? I want to make sure I don't do it
again cause it's going to take me 3-4 hours to fix the problem. (PP2007).
If I were to have a "wish list" in this program (some programs overkill on
safeguards)....I would like to see and "are you SURE warning" before a
global change is executed--but nobody asked me, did they?

PPT 2007 lets you Ctrl+Z (undo) even after you've saved. You might see if
you can get back to where you were using that.

Otherwise, I'd guess you had all the slides selected when you changed the
transition time. Either that, or you hit "apply to all," thinking it was
just an "apply" button.

Oh, and don't be embarrassed. I've done stuff like this before. We all have.
If you use PPT for any amount of time, it's pretty guaranteed that you will!
:-)

Besides, it's good to share with others so 1) they can sympathize and 2)
they don't get bitten doing the same thing! :-)

I just started using PowerPoint. I generally want to advance the slides on a
mouse click. However, there are a couple of groups of slides that I would
like to set to automatically advance after 5 seconds after the first one is
displayed and then stop after the last and revert to advancing by mouse
click. I have highlighted the group of slides to be included, then clicked
"Slide Show" and then "Slide Transition" and then noted the option
"Advance--Automatically after ## sec. The only option I then see is "Apply to
all slides", not one that says Apply to selected slides. I tried this but it
seemed to apply the 5 second timing to the entire slide show. How do I get it
to apply to only the selected group of slides?

Hi

Well, you've done well and nearly got there :-). You just have to add the
timing with the slides selected and not click anything. More than a little
counter-intuitive....

Lucy,
It worked beautifully. You're right I tried to make it more difficult than
it was--but it seems there should be an additional button for that option.
I've been able to figure out all of the other special effects that I hope
will make my first presentation next weekend a success. Thanks so much!

Good luck with your presentation :-) And don't forget to pop back anytime if
you have more questions. Or just to lurk and learn the answers to questions
you wouldn't know to ask ;-)
