Slide ID in footer instead of page no.

I create FrameMaker documents that contain PowerPount
slides. In PowerPoint, can the ID of a slide populate the
slide footer in lieu of page numbers? (The ID I am
referring to is the long numerical string that is
displayed when an OLE link in FrameMaker is broken.) The
issue has to do with identifying pages with a unique
number that is not subject to change in order within the
slide set.

I don't use FrameMaker; can you post an example of the ID text you're talking
about?

PowerPoint has no inherent way to give you anything but dates and page numbers
in footers, but a macro could drop a little text box on each slide and populate
it with specific text (e.g. drive:\path\filename.ppt - slide_id)

Thanks for your reply, Steve. I appreciate your suggestions. I have forwarded your response along with those from Bill and John to my manager, the originator of the question. His name is Mark Powell, and he will be in touch if he has further questions

Thanks again!
