How do I create a hot spot on a powerpoint slide> I would
like the ability to click on an area in the slide if asked
to blow up/present some additional info.

Can it be done?

Kind of, Bob.

Draw a rectangle or other shape around the area you want to "hotspot"
Assign the rectangle an action setting of "Hyperlink to slide" and link it
to another slide on which you've cleverly created the enlarged/zoomed view
you want.

Give the rectangle no outline, no fill to make it invisible.

You might want to draw another no fill/no outline rectangle over the entire
zoomed slide and hyperlink it back to the slide you started on - that way a
click anywhere on the slide will take you back from the zoomed slide to the
original

Hello Bob,

If you are using PowerPoint 2002 or PowerPoint 2003 you can use the trigger
option in animation effects to have an one object appear and disappear when
another object (hot spot) is clicked.

Here's a page of some PowerPoint 2003 online training that describes how to
use the trigger option (in this case, specifically for playing a movie):

http://office.microsoft.com/training/Training.aspx?AssetID=RP010738481033

One current limitation of triggers is that they only work with a mouse
click event.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) have suggestions as to
improved capabilties in PowerPoint slide show for what kinds of events can
be triggers and/or the types of things that can happen when a trigger event
occurs (without having to resort to VBA or add-ins so that it also works in
the PowerPoint Viewer), don't forget to send your feedback to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
