Hi,

Is it possible to use a slide from a powerpoint
presentation as a desktop wallpaper or screen saver. If
so how would it be dome. Many thanks

Martin

Martin,
Select the slide you want in the outline view. Choose the File menu, click
Save As, select some sort of image type, such as jpg or bmp in the save as
list. Hit the save button, you will be asked if you want to save only the
current slide or the whole presentation. Choose only current slide. Go to
your desktop, right click, choose properties, on the desktop tabbrowse to
your directory which contains the picture and select it, finally hit apply.
If you want a PPT presentation as a screen saver look here for some
guidance:

HI,

When I save as I dont have a choice of any image types
such as jpeg, gif, bmp etc.

How can I choose one of these if they are not an option
on the drop down menu. Can I add them to the list of
choices ?

Martin

Martin,
That is strange, I am using PPT 2003 here and the list contains jpeg, bmp,
tiff, png, wmf and emf. I a quite sure the same thing applies to PPT 2002.
But maybe you have an earlier version op PPT on your system, can't test it
here but I will try tomorrow at work where I also have PPT 2000. Maybe
someone else reading the newsgroup can shed some light on the subject.

Hi Luc,

I am also running office 2003 pro. Is it maybe a feature
one has to install seperately.

Martin

Are you scrolling down the list of File Types in the Save As dialog? JPG is
toward the bottom.

What version of PowerPoint do you have?

Steve,
Apparently he has got PPT 2003! Maybe it's like Sonia suggested, just did
not scroll the list. Could it have something to do with not installing all
grafical filters or something?

No. Some of the filters may be optional installs, but even with a typical
install, it'd have to include at least PNG/JPG/GIF and probably WMF.

Let's do it step by step:

With a presentation open, choose File, Save As from the main menu bar
In the Save As dialog box that opens, there will be a dropdown list box
labeled: "Save as type:" near the bottom of the box.
Normally, "Presentation (*.ppt) will appear here.
Click the downward pointing arrowhead at the right of this list box to see the
other options. Scroll down the list box and just past PowerPoint Add-In, you
should see "GIF Graphics Interchange Format (*.gif)" and several others.

Pick one, give the file a name in the "File name" text box and you should be on
your way.

Slide as wallpaper:

Set the wanted slide in Slideshow mode, then press the PrintScrn button
(right next to F12).
Then open Paint, choose Paste and then Save As.
Now you can do 2 things to get it on your desktop.
1. doubleclick the graphic in the directory where your saved it, rightclick
on it and choose set as background;
2. open the display properties (Control Panel or rightclick desktop) and
then choose the file there.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for

[TOP ISSUE - Are you having difficulty opening presentations in PowerPoint
that you just created (you can save, but not open)? -

Hello,

For screen saver functionality, PowerPoint does not have the specific
capability that you are looking for. There are several external and 3rd
party workarounds including simply saving your slides as images and then
using the "My Pictures Slideshow" screen saver that comes with Windows.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
provide a screen saver slideshow mode, be able to save slideshows as actual
screen savers, or provide some other kind of "screen saver" functionality
(without having to resort to external and 3rd-party tools), don't forget to
send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
