little bit of a big brother theme on the title there any who0...

which would be better as i thought the sli 6800s would be better than just one 7800 but then again i know relitivly nothing about graphics cards and so on.

the 7800 GTX would give better detail, but as for frame rates it depends on resolution and the game, although im pretty sure the 7800GTX would win most benchmarks

if your thinking of getting either... go for the 7800 :) if you get 2 6800 ultra's your eliminating a upgrade path...

i think the 7800 would be better... it's got more pixel pipelines and better features :p more futureproof :) and just better lol :o

well what parts are you thinking of buying?

is it a new build ? or is it an upgrade to an original system ?

ok here goes, new build if i was to build it my self but i really really dont feel comfortable doing that but any whoo heres the stuffs;

Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition £97.47
Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe nForce4 SLi £117.44
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ £605.07
Corsair 1GB DDR Value Select PC3200 £64.57
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 300GB £111.57
BFG GeForce 7800 GTX OC 256MB £469.94
CTX P972L 19" LCD Monitor - Silver/Black £292.57
Sony DWU-26A 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter £33.49
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS 7.1 THX Sound Card £52.82
Creative Inspire 7.1 T7900 Speakers £82.19
Logitech Cordless Optical Desktop Rechargeable £35.19

£ 1962.32

thats with out a case i have just realised... so if i was to add a case add a £100 or so and then theres the psu that aint in there too thats like another £40.00

www.meshcomputers.com/updated/xtreme_3_order.htm (upgrade the g-card to 7800) and that comes to £ 1762.21 thats post and 1 year warrenty too.

i atempted to get roughly the same componants from the site ( happens to be overclockers.com) but not all componants are fully listed from meshcomps :S also i know the case is ugly but i think that can be changed at a later date...

feedback very welcome

ok thats a good system ! lol... but the psu is more likely to be £80.... many people here say this is one of the most important bits of hardware :p ... get a good make like a tagan or antec :)

for a case... well thats up to youu :) i prefer thermaltech myself :p

and the reason for mesh not having the same components.. well thats because all the online sites have different brands they sell :) ... just get roughly the same specs :p

how much do you know about building a computer? as it is quite fun to do :D

little to NONE really, i have been reading up on pc hard wear for easy a year but building it is out of my league... now if you notice the price differnce for the "similar" specs its alot cheaper, the build alone will cost over £2.000 easy yet this one is at £1.800
i saw a review on meshcomputers in a back issue of custompc and they say that the company buy heavily in bulk so we get more for less, and the pc they reviewed was cheaper to buy than buying the parts seperatly by around £170 even though they wanted to change the case and ram ( ram for overclocking i belive, somthing ealse i am not really keen on doing lol.)

tbh i just wanna be able to plung in and play lol (wanna get my hands on bf2 and cs:s oh and hl2 itself)

lol good good :p .... hu are you using? MESH ?

before i would search the site for mesh, as not much good has been said about thenm :o

but i know what you mean :) you just want to get gaming :D

well i will have a looksy around but its a shame that bad news has been said... hmm this has to be looked into.... i cant take playing on my dell any more.. my craZy geforce4mx420 isnt even able to play old games never mind new.

what about a dell xps?

or you must have a local computer shop near.. tell them the specs you want and they will happily build it for you i would have fort :)

do you not have any friends that can help you with a build if somrthing goes wrong?

lol not being harsh on my friends but i fear there intilect is far lower than mine.. even if i cant spell :S but no none of my mates are as "geeky" as me they just like shooting stuff lol.

hey, i like shootin "stuff"
...
i wonder if i am geeky?

:D lol fair enough :p

have you seen the dell gaming computers ? im not sure if there any goood... u may be better of with an alienware or summin :)

well for the money your spending it may be worth checking out an alienware system :D

try Falcon Northwest too, same power if not more that Alien ware
as for the question, the 7800 will eventually be $500 so wait

I notice you've got Windows XP 64-bit edition on your list - I was under the impression that, although your old 32-bit programs will run on the 64-bit system, there aren't actually many (?any?) 64-bit drivers available for hardware, so you won't actually be able to get any of it up and running anyway (unless there are standard drivers within XP within the OS). That's just what I've read / heard so if someone on here who knows the definitive truth could confirm that would be great! :)

that looks like a great system, i would not buy any of it from mesh, get it from overclockers.co.uk

as G~man said you'll want a decent PSU Antec, Tagan or Enermax are some of the best you can get, you'll probably want one in the 500W + range to make sure you've got plenty of power left for that other 7800 down the line

the dell XPS systems are overpriced, for something similarly specced to what you've chosen your looking at about £2500, i would try finding a small computer shop and asking them if they can help you assemble it if your not confident in doing it on your own
