I have a NAS drive that is accessed only occasionally. To avoid the
power, heat and noise associated with continuous operation I would like
to make it sleep (power down) after a period of inactivity (this is
provided for in the NAS setup).
However, to suit a couple of applications I need to have the NAS mapped
to a drive letter.
Problem is that whenever I open <My Computer> or any any File open/save
dialog (whether or not I want to access the NAS drive) the system scans
all drives and wakes up the NAS. This not only means a considerable
delay but makes the sleep setting rather pointless.
My only solution so far is to set the sleep timeout to a high value so
that the device basically only turns off when I'm not around which is
only half a solution.
I just thought I'd ask whether there was any way to "exempt" the NAS
drive from the scan (or whatever happens that wakes it up).
