Sleeping at logon screen

Does anybody know of a way to stop Pcs going to sleep before anyone has
logged on. The reason for this is that the computers are used by 4 - 11 yr
olds and if they see a blank screen then the first thing the younger kids do
is press the power button and shut it down. Any help would be great as the
teachers are nagging about wasted lesson time and its driving me mad.

I'd say remove the timer for that and teach the teachers to
start/shut down the machines at each end of the day.

On some machines, you can disable/change the power button action
in the BIOS settings, also.

Hi Barry,

Login to an admin-level account and customize the Power Options accordingly
(turn off sleep/hibernate modes). Once done, close the Power Options dialog
box. To export the Power settings of the current user account, type the
following in Start, Run dialog:

REG EXPORT "HKCU\Control Panel\PowerCfg" C:\Power.REG

Then, open C:\Power.reg with Notepad. Use the "Replace" option to replace
every occurence of the string "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" with
"HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT". Save the file and close Notepad. Then right-click the
file (C:\Power.REG) and choose Merge. Now, the power settings of the current
user account is copied to the Welcome screen, technically the logon desktop.

You need to set the Power Options in Windows XP and possibly at CMOS to
never go into Stand-By mode.
Also you need to set the ScreenSaver for the logon screen (if not already
set), and ensure that the option to prompt for Logon is set when coming out
of ScreenSaver.
