Sleep mode lasts just a few seconds, my fix

I had the problem where vista would go to sleep, wait a few seconds and then
start up again. I have been looking in this forum for a month or so but only
found others that had the same problem, no solutions. Well, I think I found
one.
I have a new PC (motherboard, graphics card, disk, DVD) but I kept an older
USB keyboard and mouse. My fix is to go Control Panel/Mouse
Properties<Hardware Tab> and press the Properties button. Then press the
"Change Settings" button. Under "Power Management", turn off "Allow this
device to wake the computer".
I did the same for the Keyboard.
This means I need to press the power button on the computer to bring it out
of sleep but it seems to work great.

You my friend are a hero. This solved the biggest inconvenience I had with
RC1. Well, I still have a problem with virtualstore folders linking
properly, but that's for another post. =)

Thanks for sharing this workaround.

Your Lucky, whenever I try sleepmode, I either get a message on waking
'windows did not shut down properly or I get a crash report, it seems unable
to just sleep, also no blinking light on tower, and disc still active. have
reported it to Microsoft.

Interesting. My RC1 sleeps fine, but the mouse which has a silly blue LED
stays turned on. Since XP had this "allow XP to power down device" or
something, I tried the same on RC1, but for my mouse, the "allow computer to
turn off this device" is greyed out. Maybe that means it can already turn
it off and the blue LED is hardwired some sort of way. The mouse is a
HID-compatible if that matters. Very minor issue.

Yes well I have a keyboard that lets you put the computer to sleep, you know
one where you can press to access WMP, your e-mails. that sort of thing, but
I haven't had this problem either in XP or the previous builds. I daren't put
the computer to sleep now, so either leave it on for a short period, or have
to switch off completely.

THANK YOU! I can't tell you how much I appreciate that you posted this. It
works great!

mind sharing the fix with us? :-s

It was posted back in September I think.

Simply go to the control panel, select mouse then hardware then properties then
power management and remove "Allow this device to wake up computer". Repeat
with keyboard if mouse doesn't fix the problem, but it did for my Logitech
gaming mouse.

I just checked. It was posted Sept 16th by Gary L. All hail Gary!

I attempted to follow the above and got to opening the "properties" but
could not find the "power management" in it. What am I doing wrong?

Hit the 'change settings' button with the shield, bottom left. Power
Management tab will then appear.
