Hi all,
I just upgraded my mobo and proc. I reinstalled Win XP
but my slave Hard drive is not seen in "My Computer". I
can see it in the mobo's BIOS. I don not want to format
this drive because I saved data that I wanted to keep on
it. How can I get Windows to see it?

Thanks, John

I presume that you have correctly set the Jumpers on the back of the
Harddrives to represent Slave and Master?
Have you tried swapping the Black and Grey connectors on your IDE cable to
ensure they are the right way around too?

Right click on My Computer and select Manage. On the following screen,
select Disk Management.

The drive should show up on the right hand side of the screen... you must
assign it a drive letter before Windows Explorer can 'see' it.

I have a second hdd , a maxtor I used as a slave. I have
it jumpered correctly. I tried using Disk Management to
assigen it a drive letter.

The only option I get is to format the drive. I've checked
Windows Update drivers , and none are for Maxtor.

My main hdd is a SCSI hard drive, that shows up as C: so
that's not the problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You say you tried to "assign it", I assume "it" means the drive you say xp
can't see....? Did you format the drive...?

Have you tried making it an extended partition, creating a drive on it
and then formatting it? In Windows XP..Contol Panel->Administrative
tools->Computer Management->Disk management. Right click on the drive
and click on 'New Partition and it will open the partition wizard.
