Hi,

I'm searching for the last version of SlashX (think 1.10) a dual pane
explorer alternative.

The homepage of the developper (http://www.detoxsoft.com) doesn't exist
anymore.

Can someone help me please?

Thank you.

Marco

Pass it on. Have a good one : )

Thank you for the link, but it's not the last version of SlashX. WHen
you search for SlashX, you can find many links version 1.10.

You may be able to find many links (and if so, then why not download from
it/them?), but all I found, after going thru perhaps a half-dozen pages-worth
on Google, was the above-link.

There's an old saying; "The best is the enemy of good-enough".

If you do locate the version 1.10 please post the info.

The only useful info I see this after a quick Google search for "Slashx
1.10" is here (a second link shows info about v 1.0 - NOT v 1.10):
http://www.softpedia.com/get/File-managers/SlashX.shtml
SlashX 1.10
Size: 1.04 MB
http://detoxsoft.com/slashx.exe *DEAD

ISTM the file size is about your guide to v 1.10 - but - just to
complicate things - the author also released zip versions. . . dunno
about the original zip's file size for v 1.10.

FWIW re the link Vrodok posted:
http://python.planetmirror.com/ftp/freewarefiles/SlashX100.exe
Despite the file name that doesn't look like version 1.00 - the size is
922 KB. The v 1.0 .exe file is 886 KB per its 2001 Pricelessware
description. . . possible a later version. . . quien sabe. . .

I installed, then had a look-see at various & sundry bits. The
included/installed pdf-file, the particulars of the exe (SlashX.exe) itself;
all point towards v1.0.0.0. Even the proggy's 'Help | About' shows as v1.0.x.x.

Looks like 1.0 to me.

Thanks for that info. I wonder why the size is different and I begin to
wonder if there really are any later versions. The home page was already
gone in 2001 when the app was on the PL. The Wayback machine is no help
re these author's home pages:
http://www.detoxsoft.com
http://www.frontiernet.net/~mrpeters/

FYI I believe SOS has the "original" version 1.0 exe file:

Program: SlashX
Author: Marc Peters
Ware: (Freeware)
http://www.sover.net/~wysiwygx/WinUtils4.html
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Circuit/9810/slashx.zip
~886 KB
"*Rename the downloaded file from .zip to .exe*"

Another last freeware version mystery for our ACF expert searchers. . .
should someone feel inclined to persue it. . .

Interesting. "Slashx.exe", extracted from the "SlashX100.exe" installer is
1,310,720 bytes in size, while "Slash.exe" extracted from "slashx.zip"
comes to a total of 1,312,256 bytes. Both seem to indicate they are v1.0.

Something strange is going on here ....

I'm resisting the temptation to delve further. . . or trying to anyway.

My standard <g> thing here would/might be (re program "irregularities"):
"Something smells fishy around here, and it ain't Hanseatic cod".

(no offence meant; all watching may plagarize the above "old saying" as the
impulse comes upon them)
