The sound on my computer works fine, but everytime I try to make a call using
skype the sound mutes automatically. What do I need to do to fix this??

From my experience with Skype you need to replace it with Vonage. I have
never had so much trouble trying to get something running correctly as
Skype. My setup won't save the Dlink phone device and keeps reverting to
microphone. I've uninstalled and reinstalled both the dlink and skype that I
wish I had a dollar for each time I would have a grand night on the town!
When I finally did get it to work the phone call sounded like I was inside a
tin can with a string tied to it (my sisters discreption of what I sounded
like on her end!).

The phone I have works great with skype, but whenever I just want to use the
webcam without the phone the sound automatically mutes and I have to manually
turn the volume up. It's a pain!
