Anyone heard of this...........?

What is Skype

Skype is free and simple software that will enable you to make free calls
anywhere in the world in minutes. Skype, created by the people who brought
you KaZaA uses innovative P2P (peer-to-peer) technology to connect you with
other Skype users. If you are tired of paying outrageous fees for telephony,
Skype is for you!

Skype is quick and easy to install. Just download it, register, and within
minutes you can plug in your PC headset and call your friends on Skype.
Skype calls have excellent sound quality and are highly secure with
end-to-end encryption. Best of all, Skype does not require you to
reconfigure your firewall or router-it just works!

Skype is a Telephone app where you can 'call' another computer, and have
audio conversation with the other person.

Skype is FREE for now (beta test stage) then they plan to charge FEES to use
it once it is beta tested :(

Somehow I hesitate to use it. They *did* come up with heaps of spyware
*and* the dreaded altnet...

Cheers for the reply....... I decided not to use it aswell after thinking
about it.

Why am I not suprised..........

I'm suprised too, considering that the above is misleading at best. It's
true that they'll charge for Skype once it hits 1.0, but it'll only be for
/certain/ features (like PC-to-POTS, I presume).

Let me quote from the FAQ:

"What does it cost?
During the beta period Skype is free and helps us to refine and improve
our product. Eventually, some features and services of Skype will require
a paid subscription or prepayment. Our ambition is to keep the basic
functionality of Skype (PC to PC calls) free. More information will be
provided once our beta program is complete."

This might disqualify it from ever being Pricelessware, but it won't stop
me using it to do PC-to-PC calls to save on my phone bill.

Based on that, it will mean it eventually being "crippleware", either way,
I'll certainly never be using it, nor reccomending it as I detest
crippleware even more than I detest shareware.

Are you a current AdAware-user by any chance?
