I happened to come across this. Have not tried it but looks interesting.
You may want to give it a go and let us know.

"Skype is the next phenomenon from the people who brought you KaZaA. Just
like KaZaA, Skype uses P2P (peer-to-peer) technology to connect you to
other users – not to share files this time, but to talk and chat with
your friends.

The technology is extremely advanced – but super simple to use... You’ll
be making free phone calls to your friends in no time!

* Free unlimited worldwide phone calls to other Skype users
* Superior sound quality – better than your regular phone
* Works with all firewall, NAT and routers – nothing to configure!
* Friends list shows you when your Skype friends are online and ready to
talk or chat
* Super-simple and easy to use
* Your calls are encrypted “end-to-end” for superior privacy
* Based on cutting edge peer-to-peer technology developed by the creators
of Kazaa and Joltid

System Requirements
In order to use Skype software, your computer must meet the following
minimum system requirements:

* PC running Windows 2000 or XP
* 400 MHz processor
* 128 MB RAM
* 10 MB free disk space on your hard drive
* Sound Card, speakers and microphone
* Internet Connection (either dial-up: minimum 33.6 Kbps modem, or any
broadband: cable, DSL, etc.)"

Just one additional note:

"Please make sure you have the latest version of Skype installed before
you report any problems. You can always get the latest version by
clicking here. Also note that Skype is still Beta software and not all of
the features have been fully tested or implemented."

Something to consider -

FBI adds to wiretap wish list | CNET News.com

"Legal experts said the 85-page filing includes language that could be
interpreted as forcing companies to build back doors into everything
from instant messaging and voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) programs
to Microsoft's Xbox Live game service. The introduction of new services
that did not support a back door for police would be outlawed, and
companies would be given 15 months to make sure that existing services
comply."

Good article. Thanks. A couple of things to keep in mind though:

-Skype is headquartered in Luxembourg
-To their chagrin (and dismay) the FBI and the Bush government do not
yet control the world. Thus, getting Skype to (should they not wish to
do so) incorporate backdoors into their software will be *very*
difficult, if not impossible. Not so with M$ based software.
-Installing taps at the ISP level on non-American ISP's will be *very*
problematic, if not impossible, without individual court orders.

As stated towards the end of the article:

Niklas Zennstrom, founder of Skype, said last month that their
services currently offer no easy wiretap route for police, because
VoIP calls travel along the Internet in tens of thousands of packets,
each sometimes taking completely different routes.

Skype has become a hot button in the debate by automatically
encrypting all calls that take place through the peer-to-peer voice
application.

Also note:

Even though the requirements say W2K or XP ((Yuck, ptuiii) I'm running
it on W98SE with ZA Pro just fine. A person I know is having great
success with MinME and ZA Free. Both are on ADSL. Depending on your
hardware, YMMV.
