Seems to be, anyone corroborate? I just got the pro version and it
eats my two gig.

Exactly what does "eats my two gig" mean?

Something is leaving me with 4 meg available of my 2 gig. I recently
installed Skype Pro and I'm wondering if that's what's doing it. It
doesn't seem like it is, though, now I'm running tests. It looks more
like Mailwasher pro has started hogging ram and not releasing it. It
never used to. Maybe I'll reinstall it. I'll keep more of an eye on
things.

You are probably right with regards Mailwasher as I've noticed that on
occasion things will slow down and on checking Task Manager Mailwasher is
hogging all the cpu so I have to end process to speed things up again. I'm
sure that I reported this to them and they are looking into it.

I uninstalled mailwasher and it still happens when I download mail
into Eudora. I tried rebooting the modem but that didn't make any
difference either. I'll try just surfing for a bit and see what that
does. I gat a ram cleaner but it takes so long it's much quicker to
reboot but you don't want to be rebooting every time you send or
receive email.

A "ram cleaner?" Turn off the computer and the ram is clean. Ram is a
volitile type of memory. Windows XP is a very efficient user of all
available ram. Did you buy that ocean front property in Utah?

"...I gat a ram cleaner but it takes so long..." That's because it is simply
running a clock to make you think it is doing something.

Are you talking about 2GB of RAM?

Wanting to minimize the amount of memory Windows uses is a counterproductive
desire. Windows is designed to use all, or nearly all, of your memory, all
the time, and that's good not bad. Free memory is wasted memory. You paid
for it all and shouldn't want to see any of it wasted.

Windows works hard to find a use for all the memory you have all the time.
For example if your apps don't need some of it, it will use that part for
caching, then give it back when your apps later need it. In this way Windows
keeps all your memory working for you all the time.

I got a good deal on it! When the tide comes in, it'll be swell, I
tells ya!

OK then Smartieboots, tell me what's hogging the ram when I interact
positively with the modem then. One good thing about the ram cleaner
is it has a display so I can see the percentage of ram used wh ile
things happen. When I boot up and I'm clean, I have around 80% free
ram. then I open Mailwasher and pick up the several hundred emails
that have accumulated on the server overnight and the free ram
plummets till Mailwasher gives up. Then I have to reboot and try
again. And again. Or, I don't bother with Mailwasher and just run
Eudora and try to download the lot. The ram usage goes into overdrive
and Eudora gives up. What's using the ram this way? It never used to
happen. I installed Skype pro and Skype mate and a Skype usb phone
last week, I've uninstalled them all and the ram's still not working
right. If I spend a long time using Agent (newsreader, this one) then
that hogs up all the ram too. But Ihave broadband so the modem's
chugging away happily in the background whatever I'm doing, that's
fine. Try to download with it though and up goes the ram usage to
intolerable levels.

I wonder if this is a virus and it's coincidence about the Skype
stuff? I'll run a few things.

OK, so why has it suddenly decided to use all of it to download
whatever and then be very very tardy about releasing it?

You could always try an older version. I'm still using v1.4 and it has a very
small footprint when idle.

What is the total allocation to the two entries for Skype in Task
Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del)? It needs to be emphasised these are
ALLOCATIONS not USAGE!

Hope this helps.

Yah, I grok the difference. None, because they aren't there since I
deleted them. Something interesting, though, I have something called
ashWebSv.exe using 23,352K and something called ashMalSv.exe with an
allocated 818,240K. This seems rather a lot, I wonder what it can be?
Off to Google I go... nope, it's part of Avast, so it's legit. Avast
has seized up again lately, which it tends to do, and a part of me
wonders whether that could have anything to do with it.

It did. OK now. Thanks to all for helping :-)

This statement doesn't look right!
