Hello, y'all,

I have a quick question about Skype - is it as free as it seems? It's from
the great folk that brought us the adware-laden Kazaa, and I'm wondering
whether it's trustworthy.

TIA,

From the site FAQ:

Privacy Questions
Does Skype contain any advertising or spyware?
No.

hey chak!

it is 100% trustworthy, i have been using it for more than 8 months
or so. i even tried the paid stuff (pc to phone, to holland). and it
works great.
i have been spending my time playing helpdesk for a dutch friend, a
lot easier to do with skype, and free.

trust me, install it. you won't regret it. (running 3 spyware progs
here btw ;o)

Though I am a relatively new comes to Skype, I have used VoIP
solutions in the past, and this by far is the lowest lag time I have
ever heard.

Of course, that may also have to do with my Highspeed Cable
connection, but....

I run no less than 12 programs to keep intruders out of my system (in
addition to my Cable modem router) and I can tell you this - nothing
caused any sort of alarm when I installed Skype (except TeaTimer and
Startup Monitor, when I added Skype to the Windows
run-at-startup-list.

there's another good one, it's called dragonfly. it takes a bit less
system ressources. tested it between canada and the netherlands, works
great as well, and it is free. you just have to subscribe on their
site.

i do not run it at start-up, but as i said, nothing bad came up
whatsoever. it works great. i recently bought a 10 euro account, called
europe a few times and also my son who spends his holiday in tunisia
(on his cellphone). the land lines are extremely good and it is very
cheap.

Did you/will you invest in a headset? Or do you just use a mic and your
computer speakers?

i bought a headset with mic (around 35 canadian dollars) which works
great, my dutch friend just uses his computer speakers (much better
quality than mine) and a very good mic. he is musician so he needs good
stuff.
