skipping??

i'm having a problem, windows keeps skipping and i don't know why, it happens on everything, internet, playing cd's,dvd's, word, i think it may be a loose connection on something in the actual computer, is there anyway of telling
i have a hi-grade laptop, with windows xp, home edition! please hel
 
What do you mean by Windows is skipping? What is it doing

well with cd's etc, its like the cd's scratched, but it does the same in media player, and with word etc it just pauses for a second or two, then carries on,gets worse when its hot.
 
no, pentium 4, but yeah, not huge amounts of memory, not sure about ram, but hard drive is pretty low, <2gb remain, any advice?
 
Check to see if the fan on the P4 is running or in need of a clean out

Since you clipped the previous answer, check what doesn't
